"Battle of the Blues" Rages June 27 at the Boulevard For the Final Two Opening Slots at Our July 24 Blues Brews & BBQ Festival! Check It Out!

We have received a ton of submissions from local blues acts for the big stage opening slots this last month, so it seemed the only fair and fun way to decide between them all is to have an all out Blues-Off competition. We've set it all up to take place Sunday, June 27, beginning at 3 p.m. at The Boulevard (The Old Fox Theater at 900 George Washington Blvd.). We will take the top two acts voted on by our judges, one to play the inside stage (Where Jonny Lang will perform) and other to play the outside (Where Randolph will play). The winning band will also receive $500 cash and Brickhouse Studio time, with the runner-up receieving $250 cash. Check out the attached poster for details. If you want to submit your band for the competition, click the "Get Involved" link on this website, put "Band Submission" in the subject heading and let us know who you are and how to contact you. Band submissions will only be accepted until June 23. This event is free to the public and should prove to be a really great time at a very cool venue. We're really excited to host some of the best local blues Wichita has to offer! This city has so much talent in all genres of music and we're beyond stokeed to have the chance to help showcase it on a national level. See you at the show(s)! :)

RULES

Entry of the contest

The contest is for local blues and roots bands only. The band must have at least one member from the Wichita, Kansas area (100 miles radius). There will be an entry fee of fifteen dollars (15.00) due on the day of contest when signing in. There will be a drawing for order of bands 20 minutes before first band. Email will be sent to bands as invite and you must respond to be added to the list of bands that agree to the contest and be at the event location at least 1 hour before show time to sign-in and pay entry fee.

How to win

Our contest will be a point scoring system that will be judged by 5 different judges. Each band will only get one chance to show the judges what they got. It will be judged in one day and the winner will be announced that day. So, we are looking for your “A” game material and performance. Each band will get 20 minutes for performance time 10 minutes to set up and tear down.

POINTS

The point system will be scored in half increments 0 thru 10.  Examples of this would be 0.5, 1.0, 1.5 and etc.  10 being the best score you can get.

What we are Judging

  • Blues content- This is very important. We understand there are many different versions of this genre of music. And we are looking for original blues music (we are asking at least half of your songs be original material) NO METAL or COUNTRY WESTERN, ALT-ROCK, MODERN ROCK, HIP-HOP ETC….submissions are reviewed.
  • Performance and Entertainment Value- This will be judged together they work hand and hand in a concert environment. Play your music to the best of your ability and put on a show that they won’t forget.
  • Appearance and Professionalism- We are having a professional festival so we need all the bands to be as well.
  • POINTS CAN BE DETUCTED FOR GOING OVER STAGE TIME
  • BACKLINE WILL BE PROVIDED – Bass Guitar Rig, Full Drum kit and Guitar amps…Bands that have Keyboards and Harmonica will need to bring amps and Keys.  Drummers bring Cymbals, sticks and seat. Subject to change..
