Battle Of The Blues Waged and Won! Winners Will Take the Stage at Hartman Arena's First Annual Blues Brews & BBQ July 24 - Check It Out!

Yesterday's Battle of the Blues at the Boulevard was epic to say the least. Bands from all over Kansas came out to fight for one of the final two opening slots at Hartman Arena's Battle of the Blues, as well as a cash prize and studio time donated by Brickhouse Studios. The talent was absolutely unbelievable and in the end, the tops 3 places were decided by just a half of a point. Participating bands included Friendly Fire, Porterhouse, Sons Over Blazmo, Josh Vowell and the Rumble, Troubled Times, The Nine, Made From Scratch, The Howlerz, and RKO Blues! Josh Vowell and the Rumble Win!

After a hard fought battle, Josh Vowell and the Rumble from Topeka took first place with a high energy set powered by Vowell's undeniable ability to play to the crowd. The Howlerz took second place with a no holds barred performance showcasing lead singer Clayton Crawford's dynamic passion on stage. Vowell will perform on the inside stage at the Blues Brews & BBQ and the Howlerz will take the outside slot.

We're really excited to add these two bands to an already stacked line-up. This competition was yet another reminder of just how much talent we have in Wichita and the surrounding areas. Local original music is thriving around here and we're excited to showcase some of our best at a nationally recognized festival. So far our Kansas additions to this show include Moreland and Arbuckle, Moonlight Drive, Terry Quiett Band, Josh Vowell and the Rumble, and the Howlerz, as well as the 5 as yet to be announced acts playing the Wichita Blues Society Stage in the speakeasy lounge. Most of these bands are already receiving some national recognition for their talents so we feel fortunate to have them so close to home. They will be mixed in with some of the finest national blues artists touring today including Jonny Lang, Robert Randolph and the Family Band, Tab Benoit and Albert Cummings. Any one of these artists could headline a festival by themselves so we feel like we have one of the best blues festival line-ups out there this summer. This is truly going to be an amazing day of music.

Special thanks go out to Ryan Baker with Terry Quiett Band, Don Bean from Bad Bean Productions, Brickhouse Studios, Thomas with the Boulevard, and all of the participating bands for helping to make the battle a success! We really appreciate it and look forward to doing this again next year!

Look for the our Battle Winner's pics and bios to show up really soon in the artist line-up page on the festival website - http://blues.ksn.com and stay tuned to that site for more announcements right up until show day!
