With the release of their sophomore album Love Drunk still about a month away, Boys Like Girls are already generating tremendous excitement on multiple levels.
The album’s lead single and title track is a smash at Top 40 radio. It is now Top 25 on over 100 Pop Radio Stations. In the four weeks since its release as a single, “Love Drunk” has already topped the quarter-million mark in sales (257,063 units).
The excitement continues with the release of the “Love Drunk” video, starring Ashley Tisdale.
“The song’s obviously not about being in love,” Boys Like Girls frontman Martin Johnson told MTV News, “It’s about giving the F.U. to a relationship and a situation. It’s fun, it’s celebrating — skipping your way out gracefully with a nice flip of the bird, rather than crying your way home to mommy.”
Love Drunk will be released Sept. 8, but is currently available for pre-order on www.boyslikegirls.com, where fans can select from three different exclusive packages, and the first 500 fans who order will have their names printed in a limited edition “Love Drunk” journal. The album is produced by Brian Howes [Puddle of Mudd, Chris Cornell, Hinder] and S*A*M and Sluggo [Metro Station, Cobra Starship, Gym Class Heroes], and is the highly-anticipated follow-up to Boys Like Girls’ self-titled debut, which has been certified gold by the RIAA and sold more than 800,000 units. Combined digital single sales (”The Great Escape,” “Hero/Heroine,” and “Thunder”) are near 4 million.
Boys Like Girls — Martin Johnson (vocals, guitar), Paul DiGiovanni (lead guitar, vocals), Brian Donahue (bass guitar, vocals) and John Keefe (drums) — will start a headline tour with Cobra Starship supporting in October. Stay tuned to the band’s website for dates.
